Motion 5 - Kinetic Typography
According to Wikipedia, Kinetic Typography is the technical name for "moving text." But this term is a bit misleading because all animated type can be considered "moving." What differentiates Kinetic Typography from other forms of text animation is an expressive treatment that imbues the text with emotion. When Kinetic Type is combined with the spoken word, the text takes on a dimension of performance that underscores conflict or character. Therefore, a more accurate name for Kinetic Typography might be "performance text"
You can see copious examples of Kinetic Typography on Vimeo and YouTube.
In this 10 part tutorial, you will use Apple's Motion to create a Kinetic Typography treatment of an old Merry Melodies cartoon. Along the way, you'll learn how to sync type to markers; animate individual characters or entire words using Behaviors and the Adjust Glyph Tool; work with a 3D Scene Camera to fly from one text object to another; make extensive use of Keyframes to animate your text and work with Shapes and a Replicator to create supplemental graphics. The tutorial also includes project files so you can follow along in your own copy of Motion. Tutorial Running Time: 80 Minutes
Experience our Training on the iPad
The iPad is revolutionizing the way people access and interact with media. Video training is therefore a natural fit for people who want their training on the go or on a separate device from their main system. Because of the limited storage capacities of the iPad, we have labored to keep the movie sizes as small as possible while maintaining our high standards of image and sound quality. And perhaps best of all, you don't need to be connected to the internet to watch our tutorials on your iPad.
