CONVERT A SLIDESHOW TO A TRACK - NEW!

Convert a Slideshow to a Track
By Steve Martin

There are many reasons to convert a slideshow to a track in DVD Studio Pro. Perhaps you want to add subtitles, additional audio streams or even menu-style buttons to your slides. In this QuickTip we will use the Slideshow editor’s “convert to track” feature to combine stills and video together on the same track.

In the image below, you see a Slideshow with 12 pictures assigned to it. We want to add a video clip between slides 6 and 7. As you've probably discovered, you cannot add video assets to a slide show. But there is a good work-around…

1. At the top of the Slideshow editor click the “Convert to Track” button

In the Outline tab you’ll notice that your Slideshow has been moved to the Track category.

In the Track Editor, your slides are now presented as purple “clips” that begin with a chapter marker named after the slide they reference.

2. To insert a video asset between your slides, just drag a clip out of the Asset tab and position your cursor over the slide you want the video inserted between (in this example, between slides 6 and 7). You will see a black hooked arrow indicating the insertion point. Release your mouse.

3. Press Shift-Z on your keyboard to fit your assets to the track editor window. The track editor now displays your video asset inserted between your still images. However, there is now an alignment problem with the original chapter markers.

4. Click and drag on the markers to reposition them with appropriate slide. The markers should automatically “snap” to the cut points between the slides as you drag. Below is the track editor with all the markers realigned.

5. To add a transitions between a slide or between a slide and a video asset, just select the slide in the track editor choose a transition from the transitions tab in the inspector.

Now simulate or play the track in the Viewer to watch your "slideshow" combined with video.
