MEDIA SWAPPINGMedia Swapping. Let’s imagine that you built a great Particle Effect for your client’s Autumn TV Series – red falling leaves, yes? Now it’s winter and those leaves need to become snow flakes? Simple! In Motion, all you need to do is replace the object and all it’s attached effects, filters behaviors will instantly apply to that replaced Media. 1. Open you Layer tab (command + 4).
In this example it is the Particle Source that I want to replace named Star Leaf. 2. Locate the media in the File Browser (command + 1) that you want to use. I used a snow flake that is found in the contents folder of Motion. Navigate to the Library (command + 2).
Note: If you need to search for an item you can type the name of the file you are looking for in the search field. Just remember to press the X to go back to displaying the full contents of that folder for the next time.
3. Once you have located the object, select it and drag it from the window over the top of the object you want to replace in the Layers tab. You should see an arrow with a curved tail. Now release the object.
4. The old media has now been replaced by the new media!
This can now be tweaked and you’re ready for client approval. You can use this technique to replace any media. Try it with templates. You will see when you open a template that there are Layer indicators like Replace Here. Click the disclosure triangle next to the name and you will see which objects are available for Replacing. Follow the same instructions as above and have fun.
