MULTIPLE TAKE RECORDINGS IN SOUNDTRACK PROMultiple Take Recordings in Soundtrack Pro Soundtrack Pro offers a convenient way to record and combine multiple takes of voice over and/or vocal tracks into your multitrack projects. 1. Start by creating a new multitrack project by pressing Command-N on your keyboard. 2. Click the record button on any empty track you wish to record into.
The recordable track turns red in the multitrack editor.
After enabling the track for recording, the Recording Tab in the Utilty Window becomes active. 3. Choose your input device from the Input drop down menu. This window also gives you the option to record stereo or mono tracks.
4. Click and drag in the Bars and Beats section of the time ruler. As you drag you will see in and out points demarcating the area to be recorded or “punched” into.
5. Click the Record button at the bottom of the project window. Make sure that the looping button is enabled before recording.
The playhead will begin moving forward leaving a red trail indicating the frames that have been recorded. When the playhead reaches the out point marker, it will jump back to the in point marker and continue the next record cycle. Each time a record cycle has completed (each pass between the in and out markers constitutes a new cycle) a new take is flagged in the audio file that is created on your hard disc. To stop the recording cycles, just click the record button. Once the recording is stopped, the first take appears in the track between the in and out points.
6. To listen to other takes, control or right-click on the green audio clip and choose a different take from the menu.
Many times when doing voice overs, you are happy with the first part of one take and the second part of another take. It is easy to combine different takes in the same track. 7. Move your playhead to the location you want to cut away to a different take, then control or right click and choose “split” from the menu.
8. Control or right-click on the clip to the right of the split and choose a different take to cut to from the menu.
Here, we see the track with the first half of the voice over coming from take 3 and the second half of the voice over coming from take 4.
FYI, no matter how many takes you record, there is only one AIFF file created in the Recording Sessions folder. This sure keeps things neat and simple.
