USING THE RT VINTAGE EFFECT IN FINAL CUT PRO X

Using the RT Vintage Effect for Final Cut Pro X
By Steve Martin & Mark Spencer

Need a good Sepia-tone effect that includes an adjustable vignette?  We've got you covered with our new RT Vintage plug-in. This effect will come in handy when you need to give your movies or photos a realistic vintage look.

You can download the RT Vintage Effect by clicking this link

In the Effects Browser, select the Custom category, then locate the RT Vintage Effect.  Drag the effect onto any clip. Alternatively, if the clip is already selected, double-click the effect thumbnail to apply it to the clip.

With the clip selected, press Command-4 to reveal the Inspector window. The Vintage Effect and its parameter controls appear at the top of the Video Inspector.  You can change the Vignette's Sepia Tone color, Vignette Density, Roundness, Feather and Scale.  Each parameter can also be keyframed.

Clicking on the arrow next to the color chip brings up a color field allowing you to interactively alter the Sepia Color.  We mapped the Sepia Color to the midtones, leaving the shadows and highlights fairly nuetral.  This gives the effect a true sepia tone look.

To mix the sepia tone effect with the origninal image, use the Sepia Intensity slider.

We've also given you 4 sliders for controlling the Vignette.  Using any combination of Vignette Density, Roundness, Feather and Scale to create an "old-timey" photograph or draw attention to specific areas of the image.
