‘Degraded’ Quality of Audio Tracks in Timeline2017-06-23T06:30:08-07:00

Hey guys,

I have a really frustrating problem regarding importing audio tracks, e.g. using a high quality track for a music video, for scratch tracks to sync to.

The issue is that no matter the quality of the audio file that I take into the timeline (.mp3, .wav, .aiff), the track sounds ‘scrambled’ – for want of a better word – or ‘degraded’, just terrible, when played back. It’ll play fine for 1 or 2 seconds then start sounding awful.

Has anyone experienced this issue? If so, is there a solve for it?

Thanks so much in advance.

Michael C

Have never seen this issue, Michael – do they sound bad when played from the browser, or just in the timeline? How about when you play them from the Finder? Seems very odd. Have you tried trashing your preferences?

Hey Mark, thanks for getting back to me on this. Bad in the browser and the timeline. They sound perfect in the Finder. It’s driving me nuts! I’ve had it happen to me with a few projects now, last time, using a .aiff file solved it, not this time though. I haven’t tried trashing my preferences, I’ll give that a shot thanks. I have a short screen recording of the issue: https://cl.ly/36292r2r3F2b (you might have to turn it up a bit). You’ll hear the first second is fine then it just gets brutal after that. I’m on an iMac (Late 2013) // macOS Sierra 10.12.5 // 3.5GHz Intel Core i7 // 24GB 1600 MHz DDR3 ram. Up to date fcpx. Best, Michael
